Week 19: Drawing A Day (Days 127 - 133)
I've had a lot of people ask me "how do you come up with the things you draw?" and truth be told, it's a completely random process. Many suggestions have been provided by the great social media sphere (thank you!), but for all the other images, I just keep a running list of ideas on a note in my iPhone. When I think of something, I add it. When I draw something, I delete it. It's an ebb and flow process. The truth is when I started I was confident that I would come up with something each and every day - especially because I didn't place any rules or limitations onto myself. That being said, I would be lying if I didn't say that there have been more than one day so far where I've said "I think I've drawn everything I can think of" - which is completely not true, of course. Instead, I think that statement comes from the fact that after 127+ days of something - it becomes monotonous and routine. The good news is that I'll get a burst of energy and have a few days or week when I'm really excited about the project. Then, of course, this is followed up by a few days of me shaking my head and saying "Why why why am I doing this?", followed by my bemoaning of "What is the point?!"
But, alas I'm still moving forward and am constantly grateful by the support of those that are following the project. Putting myself out there as a theatre artist? No big deal. Putting myself out there as a visual artist? Completely different story. The permanent space is so much more intimidating.
